Picture gallery Ambrosiana

Inside the Palace of Ambrosiana, a simple building, the Cardinal Federico Borromeo let his Library be built in 1609. It was a rich collection of books and hand writings he had found all over Europe. In 1618 he added his private picture collection to the Library, forming the first part of the future Ambrosiana Picture Gallery. Here you can admire masterpieces by Caravaggio (Basket with Fruit), Raphael (a cartoon for the Athens’s School in the Vatican), Leonardo da Vinci (the Musician), Botticelli (Madonna of Padiglione) and Tiziano (Magdalene).

Picture gallery Brera

The Brera Picture Gallery is located in the homonymous building in Via Brera 28 in Milan. The Gallery is the first museum in Milan and one of the most outstanding picture gallery in the world as it houses some of the most prestigious selections of antique and modern picture masterpieces as well as important sculptures by Italian artists of the XXth century.

Among the artists, Gentile da Fabriano, Mantegna, Bellini, Tintoretto, Bramantino, Piero della Francesca and Raffaello Sanzio, Caravaggio, Tiepolo, Tintoretto.

La Scala museum

The museum, which is adjacent to the opera house in the Piazza della Scala, was opened on 8 March 1913 and was based on a large private collection which had been purchased at auction two years earlier, with funds raised both from government and private sources. The displays include costumes, set designs, autograph scores, and musical instruments of historical interest as well as paintings of musicians and actors, and a range of related paraphernalia including precious ceramic figures portraying characters from the commedia dell'arte, and board games which used to be played in the theatre's foyer.
